Math Common Core Standards for 4th Grade: A Comprehensive Guide for Parents and Educators

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for mathematics were developed to ensure that all students in the United States have access to high-quality mathematics instruction that will prepare them for success in college, career, and life. The CCSS were created by a team of experts in mathematics education and were adopted by most states in the U.S. in 2010.

The CCSS for 4th grade build on the content and skills that students learned in 3rd grade. In 4th grade, students will continue to develop their understanding of number and operations, measurement, geometry, and data analysis. They will also begin to solve more complex problems and apply their mathematical knowledge to real-world situations.

In addition to the four main strands, the CCSS for 4th grade also include additional strands and key concepts. These include:

• Number and Operations—Fractions: Students will learn to multiply and divide fractions and solve problems involving fractions.
• Measurement and Data—Measurement Conversion: Students will learn to convert between different units of measurement.
• Geometry—Congruence and Similarity: Students will learn about the concepts of congruence and similarity and solve problems involving shapes that are congruent or similar.
